Man wanted for assaulting Columbus police turns himself in

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

A man who assaulted a Columbus police officer over the weekend has turned himself in.

John Garrett, 34, surrendered to police earlier Monday afternoon.

He was wanted in connection with an assault on Patrol Officer Jason Swails. The officer was in the process of arresting Garrett, when he was attacked with a knife.

Officer Swails has been treated and released from the hospital.

Garrett is currently in the Muscogee County Jail and will have a recorder's court hearing later this week.
