Superintendent Dr. Susan Andrews announces her retirement

Muscogee County Schools Superintendent Susan Andrews announced her retirement at Monday night's Board of Education work session.

She told News Leader 9 her sole reason for retirement is to spend more time with her family and grandchild.

"It's time. 35 years is a long time, so I am going to relax. I don't have anything, another job to go to and so I am just going to relax and enjoy my family and do whatever I want to for a change."

During her tenure in education, Andrews spent nine of those years as superintendent of the Harries County School system.  She was hired as Muscogee County School superintendent in February 2009.

Her last day as superintendent is July 31.

There is no word yet on when the search for a new superintendent will begin.
