MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - The Alabama Senate has approved the first of 9 nominations to vacancies on the Auburn University Board of Trustees.
The Senate on Thursday voted unanimously to approve the nomination of Autauga County farmer and businessman Jimmy Sanford to a 7-year term on Auburn University's governing board.
Sanford was among nine people nominated for the board by the Auburn trustees' selection committee. The committee headed by Gov. Robert Bentley had interviewed 35 candidates from 170 applications received.
Senate Confirmations Committee chairman Sen. Jabo Waggoner says the panel will take up the remaining eight nominations beginning next week.
The nominees include three current members of the Board of Trustees. The current members nominated are Sarah Newton, Jimmy Rane and Charles McCrary.
