High fuel costs dock charter boats

Posted:

PALM BEACH SHORES, FL (WFLX)  Increased fuel prices are not just affecting drivers out on roads, boat captains too are feeling the spike in higher energy costs.

Charter boat captains at the Sailfish Marina in Palm Beach Shores said the high fuel prices are costing thousands of extra dollars a week to boat.

Some captains said in the current economy, they have to foot the added costs to keep charter fishing prices down or pass it along to consumers.

In both scenarios, captains said higher fuel costs are a problem that affects everyone who lives Florida.

"It's just a trickle down economy. If people aren't coming to go fishing, they probably aren't going to stay at a hotel or go out to eat either. So I think it's all intertwined," said Randal Yates, captain of Miss Annie Charters.

Captains docked at the Sailfish Marina said all they can hope for is a busy season to offset the high fuel prices.
