Sen. Isakson speaks to Young Professionals about race for president, budget

Senator Johnny Isakson spoke with Young Professionals in Columbus on Monday.

He spoke about the race for president and said he thinks Mitt Romney will be the Republican candidate based on delegates.

"There is still a strong conservative element that is behind Rick Santorum or behind Newt Gingrich. And, there is an element behind Ron Paul.  As long as they stay in the race we're going to go all the way to the convention but eventually I think Mitt Romney has the best chance," says Sen. Johnny. "I hope as Republicans we will come behind our final nominee and recognize that every day we protract our primary is one less day to focus on our opposition. Focusing on the opposition is the most important thing we can do."

Isakson also spoke about the budget.  He said he wished the President and Republican candidates were talking about the debt and deficit more.

"It has been 26 years since the tax system has been evaluated. It's time we put the tax code back on the table and say what is it America really needs to be doing and incentivizing and what can we do without? Then we need to take the revenue from those savings and apply them to lower the rate for tax payers."
