TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

A layer of warm air just off the surface protected East Texas yesterday from seeing the round of severe weather expected. However, as a front slowly moves into the area, showers and thunderstorms will be widespread causing heavy rainfall today. A line of strong to occasionally severe thunderstorms will be moving through the area this morning and into the early afternoon hours. Right now the main threat appears to be flash flooding but a few of these storms could produce gusty winds and maybe an isolated tornado. Many areas today will receive between 2 and 4 inches of rain in a short period of time. This when combined with the saturated ground from last week's rain will cause rapid run off which could lead to low lying areas flooding this morning into the early afternoon.

Our storm system will move out of the area late Wednesday but our flooding problems may not be over. It looks as though some of the creeks and rivers of East Texas could begin to flood as they fill up from runoff. If you live in a low lying area that is prone to flooding, please stay tuned to the latest information. Remember if you come to a roadway that is covered in water, turn around, don't drown. Stay with KLTV and KLTV.com for the latest.
