SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

Around 9:30 Thursday morning, the Lindale Fire Department responded to a call about a possible high water rescue.

It happened northeast of Lindale on FM 1804 just south of the Sabine River Bridge.

Authorities say they received a call about a car crossing a flooded roadway that could be at risk of being washed away.

They responded with a helicopter to aid in the search. Lindale Fire was first on the scene. On the Wood County side the Mineola Fire Department was standing by. A couple hours later, the search was called off.

Steve Finley with the Mineola Fire Department said, "We contacted DPS for their helicopter which you hear right now, and they've made a visual search of the river and found nothing. We have not been able to contact the caller to get additional information. So, nothing was found."

The bridge over the Sabine was not underwater. FM 1804 dips down into the floodplain, so the low part of the road can become flooded several times a year.

According to the Texas Department of Transportation, this is the only road under their care that is closed at this time.
