3 members confirmed to new terms on Auburn board

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - The Alabama Senate has confirmed the nomination of 3 Auburn trustees to new terms on the board.

The Senate unanimously confirmed Sarah Newton, Jimmy Rane and Charles McCrary to new 7-year terms on Auburn University's governing board. All three are incumbent members of the board.

Newton, Rane and McCrary were among nine candidates nominated last month to the board by the Auburn trustees nominating committee.

McCrary is president of Alabama Power Co. Rane is CEO of Great Southern Wood in Abbeville. Newton is the principal of Fayette Elementary School in Fayette.

Democratic Sen. Rodger Smitherman complained there is currently only one black Auburn trustee. He did not vote against the confirmations, but urged the trustee selection committee do a better job coming up with diverse nominees.
