Harris County parents camping out for Pre-K registration

HARRIS COUNTY, GA (WTVM) -

A new school year is still months away, but that is not stopping some parents from trying to get their kids in one class.

Some Harris County parents were successful in getting their children registered for Pre-K Tuesday morning,  but they had to camp out overnight to get it done.

New Mountain Hill Elementary and Pine Ridge Elementary filled 44 slots each Tuesday.

News Leader 9  was at New Mountain before dawn as parents and grandparents waited in line for more than 15 hours.

Some parents told us Pre-K will save them $5,000 a year. Students are chosen on a first-come, first-served basis in Harris County. Toddlers must be four years old by September 1, 2012 to qualify.

Park Elementary and Mulberry Creek Elementary will register students for Pre-K Thursday morning.
