Snakes win game 1 in Louisiana

Lafayette, LA (WTVM) - The Columbus Cottonmouths beat the Ice Gators 4-2 in game one of the SPHL playoffs Tuesday night in Louisiana. Columbus takes a 1-0 lead in the best of three series.

Snakes struck first when the puck was knocked around in front of the Louisiana goal nine minutes into the first period. Sam Bowles got the rebound and knocked it past Gators goalie Jeff Rose for the score. Seven minutes later Louisiana got even as Shawn McNeil's shot went over the left shoulder of First Team All-SPHL goalie Ian Vigier.

Columbus capitalized in the second period. Peter MacDougall and Orrin Hergott scored 37 seconds apart to give the Snakes the lead. Greg Beller added another Cottonmouths goal with seven minutes left in the game to give Columbus a 4-2 victory.

Vigier had 28 saves on the night and Columbus killed both Louisiana power plays.

Snakes will host the Ice Gators in game two of the series Thursday March 29 at the Civic Center.
