Fort Benning to host Army Ranger competition

FORT BENNING, GA (AP) - Dozens of elite Army Rangers will face off to see who's the best in a taxing 3-day competition at Fort Benning.

The Army post in Columbus, home to the Army Ranger School, will host the annual "Best Ranger" competition April 13 through 15.

Rangers compete in two-man teams in events aimed at testing their skills and their physical endurance. The events occur back-to-back over a 60-hour period, with little time for breaks in between, and cover skills such as weapons firing, extended road marches and parachute jumps.

Not every Ranger finishes the competition, which started in 1982. Organizers say 19 teams failed to complete all the events last year.
