Prisoner walks off work detail, helicopters and dogs called in to search

COLUMBUS, GA (WXTX) -

Muscogee County Prison Warden Dwight Hamrick confirmed to Newsleader 9 that a prisoner walked off a work detail today. Helicopters and K-9 units have been called in to help with the search.

Darrian Williams is a black male, 5'7", 170 lbs and is from the Atlanta area. He was serving time for impersonating an officer and giving false testimony.

His release date was set at March 27, 2016.

Hamrick said that Williams has never tried to escape before.  He was cutting grass just outside the prison grounds on a work detail, a job that requires little monitoring and will get checked on every hour, when he just walked off.

Hamrick says Williams, "put the weed eater down and just walked away."

Williams does not have a criminal history that involves any sort of assault, but the Warden Hamrick says "He's an escapee, so he should be considered dangerous."
