Snakes blank Havoc in series opener

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WTVM) - Ian Vigier had 25 saves and Sam Bowles scored twice as the Columbus Cottonmouths beat the Huntsville Havoc 5-0 in the opening game of their best-of-3 SPHL semifinal playoff series.

David Cianfrini and James Durham had two assists each for the Cottonmouths, who are one victory away from advancing to the SPHL finals.

Bowles got the Snakes on the board at the 13:59 mark of the first period, the first of his two goals on the night. He also scored seven minutes into the third period.

The Cottonmouths had two second period goals, by Mitch Wall about five minutes in, and a shorthanded goal by Greg Beller with four minutes remaining in the period. Beller stole the puck deep in Havoc territory and beat goalie Mark Sibbald to make it 3-0.

Bowles and Derek Pallardy accounted for the two third period goals.

Game two of the series is set for Friday night a 7:30 pm ET at the Civic Center, with a Game 3 if needed on Saturday night, also at 7:30 pm.

The winner will face either Knoxville or Pensacola for the league title.
