COLUMBUS, GA (WXTX) - First Lieutenant Jordan Morfitt got a special chance to see his family Wednesday. Because of a new assignment, he has two weeks leave to spend at home.
His family was very excited to see him, but one person was kept in the dark, Morfitt's 5-year-old son.
All Aydin knew about was that he was going to have a special lunch. When his father walked through the door, his face just lit up.
It's been a two-and-a-half day trip for Lieutenant Morfitt to reach his family at Chili's in Columbus, returning from Afghanistan.
His son could only say that he was happy his dad was back. His wife was anxious as well.
"They said it only took an hour and a half once he landed to get to us. It felt a lot longer," Anna Morfitt said.
Lt. Morfitt was stationed at Bagram Air Base, one of the largest military posts in Afghanistan. He'll be returning to a smaller base when he returns in a few weeks.
Aydin's first request for his visit, trip to the ice skating rink.
