Auburn schools buy land for possible new school

AUBURN, AL (WTVM) - School officials in Auburn expect to close a deal this week to purchase land which could eventually become the site of a new high school.

Auburn's school system will pay about $5 million for 101 acres on Samford Avenue. Superintendent Terry Jenkins said the system expects to close the deal by Tuesday.

The Auburn City Board of Education is also considering a proposal to rezone its elementary schools in 2013.

The land purchase and rezoning discussion comes as school officials try to accommodate steady growth in the schools.
