Phenix City man uses fraudulent credit card in surveillance video

PHENIX CITY, AL - Phenix City police say a local man is responsible for stealing a college student's credit card number and using at various stores in the area.

Phenix City police say this crime started at WalMart. The suspect walked up to a self-checkout machine and put money onto a gift card, but he was actually purchasing that card with someone else's money.

Lt. Jason Whitten with the Phenix City Police Department said, "The victim's credit card information was stolen and put on to another card. The suspect used that card at WalMart to purchase two $250 gift cards."

Police say the victim is a student at LSU and he has no idea how a man in Phenix City would have gotten his information. Lt. Whitten explained, "We know he isn't using this credit card. This credit card was reported to the company as being compromised or stolen."

Now Lt. Whitten says police need your help identifying the man in the surveillance video, "The suspect is a light-complexion black male, approximately 6' to 6'6". He is medium build with medium length hair."

We're told the suspect could have also used the fraudulent credit card at other stores in Columbus. If you have any information on who this man is, you are asked to call Phenix City police at 334-448-2800.
