EDITORIAL: Texting while Driving

EDITORIAL:   Virtually every state in the Union, including Georgia, has passed a law that's saved hundreds of lives.  We hope that Alabama is on the verge of doing so as well. It involves probably the craziest thing you can do while driving your car and texting.

The Alabama House has now voted to ban drivers from not only sending, but also reading, text messages while operating a motor vehicle on Alabama roads.

After a unanimous 92-to-0 vote in the House, we strongly encourage Alabama senators and the governor to enact this into law as quickly as possible.

Drivers would be fined $25 for the first offense, $50 for the second and $75 for the third.

The Alabama Legislature has been debating this measure for the past couple of years,  always to die in the senate.  They need to finally get it done.

In the meantime, don't text and drive. It's just not worth it.
