Coach Chizik subpoenaed in armed robbery trial of former student

Auburn Coach Gene Chizik has been subpoenaed in the armed robbery trial of Antonio Goodwin.   The former Auburn University football player is the first of four players to go to trial after police say they robbed 5 students at gunpoint in March of 2011.

After prosecution rested Thursday afternoon, the defense team called up Auburn University's Joseph Petrone to testify about the school's drug testing policies.

Earlier that afternoon, the district attorney showed the jury dash cam video from an Auburn patrol car showing the four football players being taken into custody after police stopped them shortly after the robbery.

The jury saw Goodwin, Michael McNeal, Shaun kitchens and Dakota Mosley dressed in black. The jury was also shown photos of inside the vehicle that shows a BB-gun, handgun and a black safe that had been stolen during the robbery, in the backseat.

One of the victims testified around midnight on March 11th, three men barged into the trailer in the Conway acres neighborhood holding guns.

Yesterday we heard testimony from former teammates of the four men charged in this case, including Michael Dyer.

Dyer testified the night of the crime they were all smoking synthetic marijuana and the four players charged in this case were talking about getting a ‘lick in', a street term for a robbery, because they were broke.

Dyer testified he believed the defendant took his gun.

Meanwhile, Goodwin's attorney has asked a lot of questions about the players drug and spice use, and she has tried to ask questions about Auburn University's athletic drug testing policies. However most of those questions have been objected to by the district attorney.

Goodwin's defense attorney tells News Leader 9 when it's her turn to put on her case; she says she will call Coach Gene Chizik to the stand to testify if the judge allows her.
