Opelika business owner found dead with multiple gunshot wounds

Opelika Police are investigating a murder at Cades Custom Exhaust & Muffler on First Avenue after they received a 9-1-1 call Wednesday night.

Temple Anderson is one of the many local car repair shop owners who are outraged after one of their own, 48-year old Walter Spratlin Junior, was found dead inside his business just after 8 p.m. Wednesday night.

"It's just a tragedy. We're just really upset and can't believe and would like to have some answers," says Anderson.

News Leader 9 spoke with Captain Bruce DeLong with Opelika Police Department about what police found when they were called to Spratlin's exhaust and muffler shop.

"They observed a male laying on the floor with gunshot wounds to his body," Delong said.

He says there are no suspects in the case and they haven't determined a motive. However they do say it doesn't look like anything was stolen.

Flowers were placed at the door step this afternoon as friends and customers stopped by to pay their respects to the man loved by many in the community.

"He's a family man you know and loved his wife and just a great asset to the community," Anderson said.

Anderson says this type of thing just doesn't happen in this area and he hopes police to catch the murderer.

A candle light vigil will be held Friday night at Exhaust & Muffler Shop in Opelika. Friends, family members, and customers are asked to come celebrate and remember Spraitlin's life.

If you have any information that can help investigators you are asked to call the Opelika Police Department at 334-704-5263 or contact the Secret Witness Hotline at 334–745–8665.
