SUMTER COUNTY, GA (WALB) - The Sumter County School Superintendent is out of a job. Thursday night, the troubled school board voted to fire him Dr. Roy Brooks.

He was hired less than two years ago. The board must pay him a year's salary and give him 30 days notice, so he is technically on administrative leave until the termination becomes official in a month.

Investigators from the school accreditation agency the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools just left Americus Wednesday after conducting a 3-day investigation following complaints about the board's leadership.

Within a month, SACS could issue a report with possible sanctions or corrective recommendations for the board. The Sumter County Grand Jury is also investigating the board.

Board member Dr. Michael Busman told us he would be okay with the Governor stepping in and removing all the board members, because things have gotten so bad, that may be what's best for the system.

The Governor does have that power, but only if SACS were to put the school system on probation and the State School Board were to recommend removing the board.

We're told Dr. Brooks had an evaluation about a month ago and met all his goals.
