Light turnout expected for Alabama runoff election

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Alabama's chief election official is predicting extremely light turnout for the state's primary election.

Chapman is predicting low voter participation because there are no statewide races on the Democratic ballot and only one on the Republican ballot. It's the runoff between Twinkle Andress Cavanaugh and Chip Brown for the GOP nomination for president of the Public Service Commission.

Locally, Russell County Commission in District 7, Chambers County Commission in District 2, Lee County Board of Education in District 5 races are on the ballot.

Polls opened at 8 a.m. and will be open until 8 a.m. CST tonight.
