COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

For about a week, students at Columbus High School and comedian Ron White have been rallying for Marvin Crumbs to be allowed to return to his job as principal of Columbus High School.

On Wednesday, students were ecstatic to hear the news that the Muscogee County School Board had voted to reinstate Crumbs to his position at the high school.

"When they said that Dr. Crumbs is going to be reinstated everybody was like yay!  Cheering, and everybody got excited and now it is really make graduation worth its while," said Columbus High School Senior, Diamond Akers.

Akers and two fellow Columbus High seniors Miguel Parrado and Warren Steele are just a few of the many students who rallied in support of Crumbs.

"It feels good to have had your voice heard, and I'm really glad it had this result.  I feel successful.  I feel like our message had an impact and we definitely made a difference," said Parrado.

Comedian Ron White has been an advocate for Crumbs after the Muscogee County School Superintendent Susan Andrews decided to reassign the principal for showing one of White's comedy routines during a faculty meeting earlier this month.

White offered to rally for the principal this Saturday while he is in Columbus for a comedy show, but with the recent decision, White says plans have changed.

"We were going to have a protest.  Now, we are going to have a celebration that the right thing was done.  We are going to give credit where credit is due which is to the school board that voted 7 to 1 to give Dr. Crumbs his job back," said White in a phone interview.

White went on to praise the students who supported Crumbs.

"The fact that all these kids really believed in this guy, and they wanted him to be in charge.  That's an amazing thing to have happen in the school," said White.

Through everything, Columbus High School students say this has been a chance to grow and learn.

"It's better to do things the right way.  You don't have to necessarily yell and scream and be crazy students in the streets.  You can do it the right way by petition and follow the law, and things can still come out the right way," said Steele.

Some Columbus High students are planning to gather Thursday morning before classes begin in a parking lot behind the school to celebrate the reinstatement of their principal.
