Hardaway High School teacher named Teacher of the Year

Cheers filled the grand ballroom at the Columbus Convention and Trade Center just after Hardaway High School teacher Vincent Sneed was named Muscogee County School District teacher of the year.

A selection committee chose Sneed from 59 of the top teachers in the district, and now, he will go on to vie for the Georgia Teacher of the year title.

When Sneed heard his name called, he thought of all the influential people in his life.

"I thought back to all the teachers and people who have influenced me, and I realized, that I couldn't have made it here without them," said Sneed.

As a music and band teacher at Hardaway High School, Sneed says his eight year passion for teaching comes from his own experiences as a high school student.

"When I was in school, I had wonderful teachers that helped inspire me through some difficult moments," said Sneed.

Robert Granger, the chairman for the Muscogee Educational Excellence Foundation, says this year's selection committee had dozens amazing teachers to sift through.

"They have that absolute desire to take and mold the students and take them where they need to go and challenge them in ways that really engage our students," said Granger.

Sneed says it is an honor to be recognized, and he will be even more excited to tell his students.

"They are the greatest group of young people I could ever work with, and I so I think this will be a moment we can cherish."
