Officer of the Year awarded at Columbus Police Department

Several officers with the Columbus Police Department were honored at a special awards ceremony.

Safe Driving, Years of Service, and Noble Eagle were just a few of the awards handed out to officers for their service.

Officers Joshua Brownlee and Jackie Law were both given the Meritorious Service Award for the role they played in saving a two year-old girl from a pit bull attack. Officer William Lowry also received that award for administering first aid to a gunshot wound victim.

Corporal Vincent Sampson was honored with Officer of the Year after serving 15 years with the Columbus Police Department. Cpl. Sampson told News Leader 9, "I'm honored and humbled. The award is not only for me, but it's for all the officers out there who aren't recognized. I feel even though my name is on the award, it's for all my fellow officers we have working in the department every day."

Columbus Police Chief Ricky Boren was awarded, along with other officers, for his forty years of service to the community.
