Blue Devils advance; rain delays all other playoff series

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Kyle Carter tossed a one-hitter and struck out 18 in the series opener to lead Columbus to a two-game sweep of Harlem on Wednesday in the second round of the GHSA Class AAA baseball playoffs. The Blue Devils won the games by scores of 4-0 and 7-2.

The games were played at Northside High School, since rain delayed the start of the games and a field with lights was needed to play the doubleheader.

Columbus will host Cartersville in the state quarterfinals next week, starting on Tuesday.

In other action, Harris County defeated East Paulding 10-5 in the opening game of their Class AAAA series. Rain delayed the start of the game, so game two, and game three if needed, are set for Thursday starting at 4:30 p.m. ET.

Brookstone also was limited to one game, falling 6-0 at Charlton County in the Class A playoffs. Game two is set to begin Thursday at 2 p.m.

LaGrange, Troup, Callaway, and Schley County's series openers were all rained out. All four teams will open second round play on Thursday.
