Three area teams advance in GHSA baseball playoffs

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - It turned out to be worth the wait for three area teams as they advanced to the GHSA quarterfinals on Thursday.

The heavy downpours that interrupted or delayed games didn't affect Harris County, Troup, or Callaway.

In Hamilton, Harris County beat East Paulding 7-5 to complete a two-game sweep and advance in Class AAAA. The Tigers will play at Johns Creek next.

Callaway beat Crawford county 4-1 and 5-0 to advance in Class AA. The Cavaliers will host for the third straight series when they face Brantley County.

Troup had to travel to Thompson, but the Tigers dominated, winning 3-2 and 8-3. They'll play at Allatoona in the Class AAA quarterfinals.

Two other teams split on Thursday to force a game three. In AAA, LaGrange lost to Cross Creek 3-2 in the opener, then won 11-1 in the nightcap. They play at 2:00 pm ET on Friday for the right to move on.

Schley County lost at Seminole County 5-3, then won 7-2 to force a decider at 6:00 pm in Donalsonville.

Brookstone was the only area team to be eliminated in the second round. They lost 6-0 at Charlton County on Wednesday, then fell 1-0 to the No. 4 ranked team in Class A to see their season come to a close.

All GHSA quarterfinal series are scheduled to begin with a doubleheader on Tuesday, with the if-game on Wednesday.
