PHENIX CITY, AL (WTVM) -

On the same day court documents alleged he approached a juror, a Phenix City Councilman has been arrested on more charges. Russell County Sheriff's officials say Councilman Authur Sumbry, Sr. turned himself in Friday and was charged with perjury, intimidation of a juror and a misdemeanor charge.

Sumbry, 71,  was scheduled to go on trial Monday for the federal charges of forgery and perjury.  He was previously arrested in January 2011 on those charges stemming from a business situation in 2008 where Sumbry was acting as a notary.  He is accused of forging signatures on a legal document that he notarized and later lied about it in court while under oath.

A motion filed by the Russell County District Attorney's Office requested to delay the trial, claiming Sumbry approached a member of the jury pool. That jury pool member revealed evidence to officials Friday, prompting the motion.

Sumbry's attorneys told News Leader 9 in a statement that, "Mr. Sumbry denies all allegations of wrong doing, and specifically denies the allegation Mr. Kenneth Davis alleged on May 11, 2012".  They added, "Our client, Arthur Sumbry, Sr., is disappointed that this matter has been continued. He was prepared to go to trial on May 14th and would have been found not guilty."

Russell County District Attorney, Kenneth Davis, did not want to comment on the matter Friday.

Officials tell us Sumbry has been a member of city council, on and off, for the past 25 years.
