New traffic lights to help ease congestion along US 280

The State of Alabama hopes to have a plan to fix the congestion along Highway 280.

The Alabama Department of Transportation is moving forward with a plan to provide relief for the tens of thousands of commuters who use the highway each day.

By late fall, some 25 new traffic signals equipped with video cameras to monitor traffic flow and automatically adjust the timing of the lights should be up and running.

The signals will be up between the Hampton Inn in Mountain Brook and Doug Baker Boulevard. The cost of such project is estimated between $1.5 million  and $2.5 million.
