Lady Devils advance to state soccer finals

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - Mary Helen Callier and Nikiay Comer notched first-half goals, and keeper Anna Scogin made them stand, as the No. 2 Columbus Lady Devils beat No. 3 Oconee County 2-1 in the GHSA Class AAA girls soccer semifinals on Wednesday night at the Walden Soccer Complex at CSU.

The victory sends the Lady Devils to the state finals for the first time in school history.

Callier's goal in the 15th minute got Columbus on the board. Oconee County matched it just 29 seconds later on a score by Alexis Thomas.

It was Comer, a freshman, who gave CHS the lead for good in the 18th minute, collecting the rebound from her initial shot to score what proved to be the game winner.

The Lady Devils improved their record to 18-4 going into the state championship game.

No. 1 Allatoona advanced to the finals with a 3-0 win at No. 4 Gainesville. They will host the state finals on Saturday in Acworth.
