BIRMINGHAM,AL (WBRC) - Birmingham firefighters are investigating at least 14 suspicious fires since Thursday and they are all abandoned homes and businesses. Investigators say the fires could all be connected and they are looking for an arsonist.

Sgt Johnny Williams with Birmingham Police released this statement "We are currently investigating several suspicious fires that have occurred on the west side of Birmingham. Our arson investigators are working with BFR investigators. Investigators have gathered information on a possible suspect, but no arrest have been made at this time."

Five more fires burned early Sunday morning, all just a few miles from each other in the Ensley area. The last two fires started just before 3 a.m. on Avenue S and the corner of 30th Street and Ensley Avenue. The other two fires started around 4 a.m. on Avenue U and Monroe Avenue.

Neighbors in the area are worried that one of the fires could spread to their homes.
