SMITHS STATION, AL (WTVM) -

A car crash Saturday night claimed the life of a 59-year-old Smiths Station man. Roger Williamson was killed instantly when his vehicle was struck by another at the intersection of Lee Road 242 and 239 in Smiths Station around 6:50 p.m.

Williamson's passenger, Gloria Williamson, was airlifted by Lifesaver helicopter to Columbus Regional where she remains hospitalized.

The other driver suffered bruises and refused medical treatment.

Police are saying it appears Williamson's vehicle was traveling east on Lee Road 239 when the vehicle driven by the other driver entered the intersection traveling south on Lee Road 242 and struck Williamson in the side. Both vehicles then left the roadway.

The accident is being investigated by the Alabama State Troopers and the Lee County Coroner's Office. Alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in the accident.
