PINE MOUNTAIN, GA (WTVM) -

Callaway Gardens plans to sell nearly a third of its property, 4,000 acres, to settle heavy debt resulting from a steep dip in attendance and projects that have drained revenues over the years.

Officials say resort operations have been suffering for a long time.

It once attracted 1 million people a year, but attendance was down to 395,000 last summer. The resort turns 60 Monday.

News Leader 9 is following this story. We'll have the latest details as it becomes available.
