COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - There will be a Game 3 showdown for a trip to the GHSA state finals.

Top-ranked Columbus and Troup split the opening games of their Class AAA semifinal series on Monday at Randy Jordan Field. The host Blue Devils won the opener 9-0, while the Tigers took the nightcap 5-1 in a game shortened to six innings by darkness.

In game one, Columbus got its offense going after a two-hour lightning and rain delay.

The contest was halted in the top of the fourth inning with the Blue Devils leading 2-0.

After the weather cleared, they scored one run in the fifth on a Hunter Swilling sacrifice fly, then exploded for six runs in the sixth inning to ice the game.

Kyle Carter went the distance to pick up the win.

Game two was an entirely different story for the Blue Devils.

Troup starter Garrett McClurg held Columbus to one run on three hits and struck out two in picking up the win.

Dalton Hadley homered for the Tigers in game two.

The deciding game three is set for Tuesday at 3 p.m. ET at Randy Jordan Field.

The winner will play at either Ringgold or Gainesville for the state title. That series also opened with a doubleheader split, with the game three also set for Tuesday at 3 p.m. in Gainesville.
