CHAMBERS COUNTY, AL (WTVM) -

A Chambers County father is behind bars after investigators say he broke his one-month-old son's leg, intentionally.

Investigators say DHR alerted them to a possible case of child abuse, after the newborn was brought to Lanier Hospital this week.

Marcus Broughton, 26, was questioned by detectives. Investigators say he admitted, the child was crying and would not stop so he picked him up and at some point twisted his leg

"We see  abuse all the time, but you know when something happens to a one month old baby that is total defenseless, it just blows my mind, it makes no sense to me whatsoever," said Major Mike Parrish with  Chambers County Sheriff's Office.

Broughton was arrested Thursday and was charged with willful abuse of a child.
