COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

Columbus police told News Leader 9 charges are pending against a driver after a head-on collision claimed the life a Box Springs, GA woman.

Deputy Coroner Charles Newton says Morgan Berryhill, 19, was driving one of the vehicles involved in the accident. Berryhill was pronounced dead on the scene; five others were injured, including several children.

Investigators told us the crash happened just after 6 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Double Churches Road and Nature Trail.

According to police, a Chevy Equinox crossed over the center line and struck the 1998 Honda Civic driven by Berryhill.  Three of those injured were children -  two of them were taken to a children's hospital in Atlanta for further treatment and are listed in serious condition.

Jonathan Hampy, who witnessed the accident, said he heard the loud crash and sprinted to the scene to help. "I looked at the silver car, it was mangled, I didn't hear anything. So, I went to the black car and the lady was yelling she couldn't breathe, suffocating. I tried to break the glass."

Police told us charges are pending against a mother who was also the driver of the Chevy Equinox. At this time, investigators are not revealing the details of those charges.

Berryhill's funeral was scheduled to take place Tuesday afternoon in Geneva, GA. She graduated from Taylor High School in 2011 and was attending Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, GA.

News Leader 9 is following this story. We'll have the latest information as soon as it becomes available.
