PHENIX CITY, AL (WTVM) -

Central High School art teacher Christopher Matthews, 43, was arrested Friday and charged with harassment after Phenix City police say he gave a female student an inappropriate love letter.

The girl's parents filed a complaint with the school, afterwards the school contacted police, and then the parents signed a warrant for Matthews' arrest.

Police said in the letter Matthews did not speak in a sexual manner, but was mostly indicating he wanted a relationship with the young girl.

The Phenix City superintendent tells News Leader 9 Christopher Matthews worked at the school for seven years and Matthews resigned before his arrest Friday.

He was granted a $500 bond and bailed out of the Russell County Jail.
