COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

School is out and camp is in. If you are still looking for some cool ideas for your kids this summer look no further.

Instead of lying on the couch and spending all day watching television there are plenty of summer enrichment programs available to keep your child thinking. Whether it is dancing or sewing, children have taken over Columbus State University's campus for the Activ8 Enrichment Program.

"[We have] sewing classes. We have a swimming camp, rock climbing. We have lots of sports camps and we have dance, and all kinds of music and science," Program Director Stephani Gunderson said.

Activ8 has over 150 different week-long camps for you to choose from. Eleven-year-old Gwyn Rush says she always attends some kind of summer enrichment program because she loves to learn new things.

"This week I was doing high voltage in electricity camp. I've done the sewing camp. I've sewed a teddy bear, an elephant bag, and lots of different things," said Gwyn.

As part of their dance camps, Activ8 also offers a hip hop and jazz class. Organizers say it's important for parents to keep their children's minds sharp and keep their bodies moving. There are several other interesting programs going on all over the valley.
