TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Devonta Pollard has signed with the University of Alabama men's basketball program for the upcoming 2012-13 season, head coach Anthony Grant announced Friday evening.

Pollard, a 6-7, small forward is a five-star prospect according to Rivals.com, ranked as the seventh best small forward in his class and the 22nd best prospect in the nation by the organization.

A native of Porterville, Miss., he recently led Kemper County High School to the Mississippi 3A State Championship by averaging 23.8 points, 15.7 rebounds and 5.1 blocks, earning Mississippi's Mr. Basketball title along the way. He was also named the Gatorade State Player of the Year and the MVP of the Alabama/Mississippi All-Star game.

"We are extremely excited about the addition of Devonta Pollard to the Crimson Tide family," Grant said. "Devonta is an extremely gifted player that is capable of playing multiple positions and has demonstrated the ability to impact games in a variety of ways. He possesses the character and work ethic of a champion student-athlete and will be a great ambassador to our university, community and program."

In April, the left-handed Pollard received an invitation to the prestigious McDonald's All-American game, but did not participate in the actual game due to injury. He will be the 10th McDonald's All-American to suit up for the Crimson Tide.
