EDITORIAL:  Last week the Muscogee County School Board rejected every proposal Superintendent Andrews made for promotions of current employees in the school district.

Without any prior notification the same five school board members voted no each and every time. Dozens of family members had gathered to celebrate the promotion of their loved ones only to be surprised and crushed by this apparent coalition.

One of the board members who voted no and said they were sending a statement, not trying to hurt the nominees. She said she did not personally vote against these people, "we made a ceremonial delay."

Board Chair Williams called it a shameful act and apologized to each family for the embarrassment. This was politics at its worst. If these Board Members wanted to lash out at Andrews, or whatever their political motivation might have been, they could have made their intentions known before the families gathered, before they were to be embarrassed by bad politics.

The five School Board members who voted no are: Norene Marvets, James Walker, John Wells, Beth Harris and Pat Hugley Green.

You should contact your School Board member and let them know how you feel.  School Board elections happen in July, I would encourage you to express your feelings at the polls as well.
