COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

Columbus police told News Leader 9 a man died after he was struck by a vehicle backing out in the Cross Country Plaza parking lot off Macon Road.

The accident happened Wednesday after 84-year-old Willis Smith walked out of the Publix Supermarket.  Smith initially said he was fine and went home.  He later died Thursday evening from trauma to his brain.
