West Georgia man found trapped in burning home dies

LAGRANGE, GA (WTVM) -

A LaGrange man is dead after he was rescued Friday morning from his burning home on Hines Street. The 39-year-old man was trapped inside his bedroom.

Firefighters said when they arrived on the scene just after 2 a.m. heavy smoke and fire were visible from the back of the single-story wood-framed home.

Crews had to force their way in and used thermal imaging equipment to find the man.  The man was found in his bed unconscious. He was taken to West Georgia Hospital where he later died.

No other injuries were reported.  It's not known at this time if any smoke alarms were working at the time of the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by LaGrange fire and police departments.
