Gas prices take a tumble in Columbus and East Alabama


That pain in your pocket may have gotten a little less intense these past couple of months. Ever thought you'd drive around and get excited over $3.23 gas?

Papa John's employee Latoya Miller is thrilled because it now means she'll be taking home more money at night.

"I deliver [pizzas].We [are responsible for] putting our own gas in the car. So by [gas] going down, it helps us a lot. It's been saving me a lot of money," said Miller.

According to, can find gas in Columbus as low as $3.15 a gallon.

That's a $0.85 difference from $4 a gallon about two months ago; ranking Columbus well below the national average of $3.58 a gallon.

On average, drivers are saving about $10.00 per fill-up.

"I'm really saving a lot of money. Because usually, I have to fill [my car] up constantly, every time I go to work. Now, I can go two days without having to, so it's working out good for me," Miller said.

There's even better news in east Alabama, gas prices are down to almost $3.00 a gallon! News Leader 9 found gas in Opelika as low as $3.05.

Before you head across the river to fill-up, just know that it's about a 30 to 45 minute drive before you get to the gas stations with the lowest prices.

Opelika leads the board with the lowest prices in the area but, Auburn is trailing close behind.

Although, gas prices are dropping compared to three years ago, it's still cost a full dollar more per gallon.
