SLOCOMB, Ala. (AP) - An official says a tornado that touched down in a southeast Alabama county has uprooted trees, destroyed chicken houses and damaged the roofs of some houses and mobile homes.
Geneva County Emergency Management director Margaret Mixon says no injuries have been reported since the twister touched down before noon Sunday. She says downed power lines have left Slocomb - a city of about 2,000 people - without electricity.
The National Weather Service placed portions of southeast Alabama under severe thunderstorm warnings and tornado watches Sunday afternoon.
Meanwhile, Mobile and other areas of southwest Alabama still faced flash flood watches as heavy rains continued to fall after bringing more than 9 inches of precipitation since Friday. Several roads were closed because of flooding in Mobile County.
