PHENIX CITY, AL (WTVM) -

An investigation into shots fired turned into a homicide investigation for Phenix City police.

A resident on 8th Avenue in Phenix City called police Sunday after she discovered her home had been shot at early that morning.

Capt. Frank Ivey with the Phenix City Police Department explained, "An investigator went out to follow up on the shooting into an occupied dwelling and that is when we discovered it was a homicide."

Inside the home, police found 32-year-old Donnie Lewis dead from multiple gunshot wounds to the chest.

"He was still sitting in a chair when we found him. He was actually in an outdoor storage shed. It was about 6x8 shed," said Ivey.

Police say Lewis had been dead for more than 12 hours outside his home that he shared with his sister and her boyfriend.

After questioning them, Ivey said police made an arrest, "We were interviewing people who were at the house or had knowledge of what was taking place at that time and the subject gave indications that he had more knowledge of the shooting than just hearing gunshots."

Larry Hill, 29, was arrested and charged with murder and shooting into an occupied dwelling. After his arrest Hill indicated the shooting was a result of on-going disputes with his girlfriend's brother, Donnie Lewis.

Capt. Ivey explained, "The indication that Mr. Hill gave to the investigators was that in the past they had some domestic arguments and on-going arguments, but basically he felt bullied by Mr. Lewis."

Larry Hill is now being held in the Russell County Jail.

Donnie Lewis's body is being sent to the Alabama crime lab for an autopsy.
