COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

A ground breaking ceremony was held for the Columbus campus of the Georgia Military College. The $5 million facility will be located at 7300 Blackmon Road in north Columbus.

The president of GMC says the campus will have high-end technologies like campus-wide, wireless mesh network, smart boards with student voting systems in all classrooms and e-textbooks.

"It makes me happy that school is growing and expanding. It is great to have more room for specific courses and the Biology lab, too," said Christine Pickett, an early childhood education major from Columbus.

"I think it is going be cool," Kenyada Majors, a general studies major from Columbus, said. "It will give students a hands-on chance to learn more about technology."

Classes are expected to begin at the new campus early next year.

Students are also excited about the change in location. Lizmarie Zambrana, general studies major, of Columbus, said, "This will be very convenient for me. I like the idea of a more comfortable space with an independent building for the students."
