26th annual Family Day in the Park a major success

The annual Family Day in the Park draws massive crowds every year, and this year was no different. For 26 years families from all over, have come together to listen to great music, eat the best foods, and celebrate the special bond families share.

Nineteen year-old Amber Corbian came from Mobile, Alabama with her nieces to get in on all the fun.

"It's so wonderful. All the people, the food, the energy that's out here [at Cooper Creek Park]. It's just amazing," said Corbian.

News Leader 9 spoke with radio personality DJ Chip of the "DJ Chip in the Morning Show" on Foxy 105.  DJ Chip says this event is like a huge family reunion.

"It's a free concert for the entire community. We do everything from Gospel and Blues to Hip Hop and R&B to Reggae we get it all in for everybody," DJ Chip said.

Families get to enjoy more than a dozen different artist from several genres.

"Between the acts, we play the hottest songs that we're playing on the radio right now.  The kids and mom and dad, everybody, can get crunk then we bring up the next artist and they turn it up to the next level," said DJ Chip.

Teams are also "spicing" it up to the next level at the Barbeque cook off conest, where our very own Barbara Gauthier was a judge.

"Yes ma'am the barbeque [was] delicious," said jaylan Walton from Talbotton, Georgia.

Organizers say about 10,000 people were in Cooper Creek Park; that's a lot of people and a lot of cars but Columbus P.D. were on the job keeping traffic flowing smoothly.

"It's a great event!  If you missed it we'll be doing it again next year.  It's every year the day before Father's Day.  So, if you missed it this year come out and check us out next year," said DJ Chip.

According to organizers, it's safe to say the 26th annual Family Day in the Park was definitely a success.
