TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - The board of the University of Alabama System approved tuition increases Friday for the three campuses, starting with the fall semester.
Tuition for the Tuscaloosa campus will go up 7% to $9,200 for two semesters. Birmingham will increase 8.5% to $8,400 for two semesters, and Huntsville will rise 8.6% to $8,794 for two semesters.
The vice chancellor for financial Affairs, Roy Hayes, said the tuition increases resulted from reductions in state and federal funding. In 2008, the UA System received about $616 million in state and federal money. That has been reduced to about $442 million for the 2013 budget year.
