Still no sign of missing boy in Lake Lanier

HALL COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -

FBI divers, cadaver dogs and dozens of searchers are continuing to scour Lake Lanier for signs of a teenager missing since a fishing boat collided with his family's pontoon boat.

Griffin Prince, 13, fell overboard and his 9-year-old brother Jake died after another boat slammed into the one the Prince family was riding.

Police arrested 44-year-old Paul Bennett, who allegedly piloted the other boat, and accused him of operating a boat while intoxicated.

As teams searched for the boy, investigators released 911 audio from the night of the deadly crash.

David Bryant, who witnessed the aftermath of the crash from another boat, described the scene for an emergency dispatcher.

"One missing in the water and one injured on the boat, not responding," Bryant said on the recording. "The one missing is 13 and the one on the boat appears to be 9 or 10."

Hall County Sgt. Stephen Wilbanks said investigators have brought dogs trained to sniff for bodies still in the water, three-dimensional scanners and divers who specialize in searching deep, dark water, where the conditions are far from ideal.

The task of finding the boy has been time consuming and difficult. Divers have to contend with 100-foot-deep water with almost no visibility, cold temperatures near the lake's bottom and treacherous underwater vegetation in which a diver can get tangled.

"Cold water, we're talking about highs of 40s to low 50s, visibility is near zero, there's a lot of brush and debris to be dealt with," Wilbanks said.

Search teams, however, have not found the boy. It is unlikely he is alive since so many days have passed.

"We want to provide closure for the family," Wilbanks said.

On Monday, the family released a statement on the memorial Facebook page for Griffin and Jake. You can read the statement here.
