COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - A salary for the interim superintendent of the Muscogee County school district has been decided.
During a special meeting on Monday, the school board approved a one-year contract for John Phillips at just a little over $17,000 a month.
It was not a unanimous vote to approve the salary. Three board members voted against it, while six were in favor of it. The reason some board members voted against the salary is because it pays Phillips more than the current Superintendent Susan Andrews is making.
Phillips previously served as superintendent from January of 2003 to August of 2008, but returned on September of that year to serve as interim.
His first day on the job is July 1.
