Police in both Phenix City and Columbus are looking into two Monday morning robberies that could be related.
Monday morning at 4 a.m. employees at the Colonial Inn on Highway 280 in Phenix City tell police two black men in their 20s entered the hotel with guns and demanded money.
Witnesses say one of the suspects was wearing a red shirt, the other was wearing a dark colored shirt and had something covering his face. Nobody was injured, but the men got away with cash.
Less than an hour later, employees at La Quinta Inn on Warm Springs Road in Columbus told police two black men, in their mid 20s, entered their hotel with guns and also demanded money.
They gave police the same description of the suspects, one man wearing a red shirt, the other in a dark color with a gray cloth covering his face. Again, nobody was injured, but the suspects left with cash from the register.
Although the two hotels are in separate states, the drive would only take about 15 minutes, maybe even less in the early morning hours. Police say they aren't positive the armed robberies are related, but the circumstances are very similar.
Both suspects are described as black men, in their mid-20s, between 5'8" and 5'10", 160 to 180 pounds. The victims in these armed robberies tell police the men were carrying small revolvers.
If you recognize either of the men in the video, or you have any more information about these armed robbers, you are asked to call police. You can call Columbus police at 706-653-3400 or the Phenix City Police Department at 334-448-2800.
